Prerequisites

Students who attend this course must have experience with the Cisco or IOS command line and must meet the following prerequisites:

  • Certification as a CCNA or the equivalent knowledge.
  • Strong user level experience with Windows operating system.
  • Familiarity with the networking and security terms and concepts (the concepts are learned in prerequisite training or by reading industry publications.)
  • Session Objectives

  • At the end of the course delegates will be able to;-
    • Identify how Cisco IPS protects network devices from attacks.
    • Install an IPS sensor appliance in the network & initialise it. Use IDM to configure basic sensor settings.
    • Configure IDM to in built signatures to meet requirements of security policy.
    • Tune & create signatures to meet chosen requirements of given security policy.
    • Be able to use IDM to tune a sensor to work optimally in the network.
    • Use the Monitoring Centre for Security & Cisco Threat Response to maximize alarm management efficiency.
    • Explain blocking concepts and use IDM to configure blocking for any set example.
    • Install NM-CIDS in a router & initialise it.
    • Install the Module into a Cisco Catalyst 6500 Switch & initialise it.
    • Install & recover sensor software image and perform service pack and signature updates.
    • Use CLI & IDM to verify system configuration.
