Cisco Cable Modem Termination Systems CMTS ICCR & ACCR Bootcamp
RRP: £2650 (plus VAT)
Duration: 5 Days
Course Contents, Benefits and Positioning
The event combines the key features of the Introduction to Cisco Cable Router and Advanced Cisco Cable Router courses and covers DOCSIS standards for 1.x to 2.0 deployments covering hardware and software features necessary to support DOCSIS in a multi standard environment. The bootcamp is instructor led with presentation and lab exercises with example hands-on configurations to support the presentations.
Objectives
The goal is to train technical staff to design and deploy scalable, Data-over-Cable Service Interface Specifications (DOCSIS) standards-based, solutions using Cisco’s cable modem termination systems (CMTS) and cable modem (CM) technology.
Target Audience
This course is positioned for both new-hire cable technicians and experienced network administrators responsible for maintaining HFC cable networks and is recommended training for individuals within the Multi Service Operator (MSO) service provider industry.
Prerequisite Knowledge
Interconnecting Cisco Network Devices (ICND) or equivalent experience having attained their Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) exam.
Course Outline
Topics Covered Include:
- Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS) 1.1 and 2.0 including terminology, concepts and core protocol functionality
- Cisco’s uBR7246VXR, uBR7100 Series and uBR10012
- Voice over Packet Cable Network
- Digital Networking Summary
- Cable Security
- CMTS line cards
- Design and traffic flow
- Security options
- Tuning
- Redundancy
After completing this course, the student should be able to:
- Describe and explain basic radio frequency (RF) and distribution architectures used by CATV operators to support video and data
- Describe CATV plant topology, networking concepts, and the requirements to support new services
- Describe the functions for the layers in the DOSCIS protocol stack, and formats of the frames in associated protocols. Discuss DOCSIS specifications and describe basic protocol operation. Describe the cable modem initialization sequence for DOCSIS
- Identify the Cisco CMTS and CM products, their features and options
- Install, configure, test, and operate a single channel high-speed data access facility using Cisco CMTS and CM
- Explain and use the various IOS commands that are available to adjust key parameters that effect functionality and performance in a cable network environment
- Configure and verify operation of high-availability (redundancy) options used by Cisco CMTS platforms including the Cisco RF Switch
- Understand the steps involved in establishing a security policy, identifying and using IOS tools available on the Cisco CMTS to enforce the policy
- Discuss the need and methods for establishing policy to control special traffic types within a cable network
- Compare and contrast the resource allocation and call flow within PacketCable 1.x DQoS and PacketCable Multimedia (PCMM) deployments
- Overview of the DOCSIS 3.0 environment as a Modular and Integrated solution
